The REO News from March 1956 reports that sales were excellent in Attymass.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
“Atymass Rural Area, Co. Mayo: Mr. McHale opens his report on Attymass with a tribute to his new Supervisor, Mr. M. Devine and, of course, also includes the former Supervisor, Mr. P. Harte, from whom Mr. Devine took over. Mr. Harte has been transferred to a new crew which opened its activities in Gortahork Rural Area. Tribute is also paid to the Area Clerk, Mr. Guina, and to the A.O., Mr. O’Neill, for the trojan work which each had in his own particular sphere.
Although figures are not quoted, we gather that the area may not have worked out too well financially, but we are glad to note that, in spite of backsliding, the consumer position improved by 150 numerically and by about £640 of revenue.
Sales in the area reached an excellent total of £1,120 and Mr. McHale thinks that, as the people of the area become more aware of the potentialities of electricity, a visit from the salesvan would prove profitable.”
