This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Ballinamuck Rural Area, Co. Longford: We open the notes on Ballinamuck Area by congratulating Mr. O’Keeffe and his crew on the excellent results. An improvement in the return from 5.60% to 6.20%, together with 79% connection in an area of small farms (4 to 10 acres) is indeed to be commended. Mr. O’Keeffe has paid due and fitting tribute to his supervisor, Mr. McManus for the high standard which he demanded from the crew; to his Area Organiser, Mr. Nolan and to his Area Clerk, Mr. J. Thornton, who has been transferred to the Taughmaconnell Area, being replaced by Mr. T. O’Farrell.
Originally there were 527 economic consumers of whom 5 had been already supplied when the construction crew arrived. There were 45 backsliders, but 136 new consumers were gained of whom 13 were paying Special Service Charges. This brings the final total to 613, and 576 were connected at the time of writing the report at the end of November.
Revenue improved from £2,663 to £3,358. The actual nett cost was £44,300. Assuming 17% overheads this represents an actual gross cost of £51,702 as against £54,982 authorised. It is good to note that the cost per consumer fell from £77 to £72."
