Interest in the utilisation of electricity was high in Ballycallan according to The Reo News from January 1956.

This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
“Ballycallan Rural Area, Co. Kilkenny: Mr. J. A. Vale provides the report on the Ballycallan Area and we are glad to congratulate him and his crew on improving the return for the area from 5.8% to 6.21%. There was a nett gain of 62 consumers.
Interest in the utilisation of electricity was high, and Mr. Vale tells us that the attendance at the general demonstration was the largest he has ever seen in a rural area.
Mr. T. Poole, Area Organiser, is to be congratulated on a sales total of £1,182 in which we noted a total of 17 pumps.
The report states that there is very little prospect for post development in the area.”
