The REO News from August 1959 reports on a pump demonstration in Ballycumber.

This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"PUMP DEMONSTRATION AT BALLYCUMBER.
Making hay while the sun shone was one of the reasons why there were only 16 visitors out of almost 500 consumers at the pump demonstration given on the farm of Mr. James Johnston, Geeloge, Ferbane, in Ballycumber Rural Area. But of these, five have bought pumps, and two are deferring the sale until Autumn.
Mr. Johnston installed a shallow well pump with Hydrodare piping in a 15 ft. trench which also carried the supply cable for the pump motor. A sink and waterheater were installed in the kitchen, providing hot and cold water on tape Another tap was provided in the yard. A display of other pumps and electrical equipment was arranged in a nearby barn.
The results of this demonstration were rather disappointing and there seems to be little hope of a brighter position in the Area at a later stage.
We may have given the impression in previous issues that these Pump Demonstrations were carried out by Head Office staff. We stress, therefore, that these demonstrations are organised entirely by the district and area staff concerned. Pump Advisory Service is, of course, more than willing to be of assistance."
