The REO News from July 1956 reports that Ballyhahill is a small dairying area
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Ballyhahill Rural Area, Co. Limerick: Ballyhahill, Mr. R.M. Scallan tells us, is a relatively small dairying area in which it was originally proposed to give supply to 186 premises. However, 68 new consumers were obtained, and though bad weather and rather indifferent quality labour did not help in the matter of capital costs, the crew are to be congratulated on a slight improvement in return from 6.65% to 6.67%.
Sales by the Area Organiser, Mr. J. Killeen, amounted to £794 which Mr. Scallan regards as quite good for a small area and we noted that this total included 9 pumps. We might be inclined to regard the total as moderate but we recognise that the bad weather period, particularly in a dairying area is not the best time for making sales. Perhaps one of the district salesmen will find it more fertile ground under better conditions.
It is interesting to note that all the houses in Ballyhahill village installed electricity in place of bottled gas which they were using for lighting."
