The REO News from March 1955 had a very satisfactory report from Ballyhay.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Ballyhay Rural Area, Co. Cork: Mr. P. Tynan sends us a most satisfactory report on the Ballyhay Rural Area.
Commencing construction with 452 acceptances and an expected return of 6.02%, the area finished with 489 consumers and a return of 6.30% and this will be improved still further by reason of the fact that the overheads have been reduced to 1.7%.
Sales reached the excellent total of £1,911, despite keen competition from the local traders in Rathluirc and the Area Organiser, Mr. G.D. Whyte, is to be congratulated on this effort. Among the major items we noted: 11 Pumps; 16 Cookers; 9 Washing Machines; 2 Welders; 4 Burco Boilers and 1 Grain Drier. Further sales can readily be made and we anticipate that a sales van will move in.
The crew were fortunate in having a fine office and it was possible to set up a miniature showroom there. In Mr. Tynan’s view, the external publicity did not lead to much sales enquiry, but it was of tremendous benefit to have the showroom, where people could view and choose before buying. A feature of the external display was that one word of it could be seen as traffic approached a dangerous bend nearby. It was the word “EASIER” and it is suggested that traffic paid attention to this, with a reduction in road accidents."
