Pole positioning caused a problem in Ballyhooley according to The REO News from November 1953.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Ballyhooley Rural Area, Co. Cork: From Mr. Calnan’s report on Ballyhooley we gather that the backbone line was not far removed from an existing 38 kV line and, as a consequence, pole positions were disputed over the greater portion of the route. So awkward did the position become that eventually the D.E. caused the line to be diverted at the Fermoy end to connect up to an existing single‑phase line which was then converted to 3‑phase working.
There were 19 backsliders out of the original 247 economic acceptances, 3 further consumers were rejected in the course of field design, 5 had already received supply, and 21 had become vacant or derelict. Thus, the total fell to 199, but was rescued by 44 new acceptances, to give a final total of 243. It is to be noted that 15 of the houses which had become vacant were in Ballyhooley village and the families had moved out to cottages scattered throughout the area. Consequently, although they remained acceptances their economics were considerably debased and, in fact, the final return fell from 6.75% to 6.37%.
Sales by the A.O., Mr. C. O’Shea, totalled £800. Principal"

"items sold were: — 3 4‑plate Cookers; 8 3‑plate Cookers; 4 Grain Grinders; 4 Burco Boilers; and 1 Power Packet. We understand from Mr. Calnan’s report that the demonstration could not be held until the end of the construction period and that, correspondingly, the opportunity for sales was limited. We gather that the Sales Van has since been operating in the area."
