The REO News from October 1955 tells us that sales were excellent in Ballylynan.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Ballylynan Rural Area, Co. Laois: In spite of 43 losses Mr. Kelleher and his crew in Ballylynan completed the area with a nett gain of 61 consumers and are to be congratulated on improving their return from 6.08% to 6.27%.
This was a particularly noteworthy performance in light of the labour conditions experienced. Construction in the area coincided with the long‑drawn out harvest operations last year, and as a result labour was reasonably plentiful on wet days, but in fine weather many of the construction crew absented themselves to help with the harvest. The Supervisor, Mr. Frank Whyte, found himself in the position of re‑organising his gangs daily, and to add to his troubles the establishment of a fourth crew meant the loss of four of his key men.
Sales in the area were excellent and Mr. P. Fogarty, A.O., is to be congratulated on his total of £1,450. We congratulated him in the July issue for having sold 19 pumps in his area, and our congratulations are re‑inforced by now learning that his final total included 21 pumps. The demonstrations were well attended and Mr. Fogarty is of the opinion that the prospects for future sales are very bright.
We are glad to know that at the completion date 410 houses had been wired and that of these 320 had installed outside lights."
