The REO News from August 1954 noted that 90% of houses in Ballymoe had plugs installed.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Ballymoe Rural Area, Co. Roscommon: The Ballymoe Area was commenced by Mr. J. Fortune and on his transfer, Mr. A. Fleming took over duty. Construction in the Area was carried out in conjunction with the neighbouring area of Glinsk and it was quite an effort to prevent mixing up materials, records, etc. This difficulty, however, was successfully overcome and Ballymoe emerges generally with honours.
In spite of 17 backsliders, the total of acceptances was raised from 367 to 445 and the final area return shows an excellent improvement from 6.35% to 7.3%. Credit for this improvement is given to the A.O., Mr. M. McCarthy, assisted by the local “Electric Light Committee”.
It is rather a pity to learn that sales did not keep pace with revenue, amounting only to £240. The report tells us that the poor sales were due to the fact that consumers would not buy until supply was available, and the shortage of transformers handicapped this desirable condition. It is noted, however, that 90% of the houses installed plugs and that the prospects for later sales are reasonably good.
As Ballymoe was Mr. Fleming’s first area, he would like to express his thanks to the District Staff; H.O. Staff, Polefield, Central Stores and Materials Division for their advice and assistance. In particular, he wishes to pay tribute to his Supervisor, Mr. M. Fitzpatrick, his Clerk, Mr. P. Ryan and his Organiser, Mr. M. McCarthy."
