The Young Farmers Club in Barryroe was praised in The REO News from January 1952.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Barryroe Rural Area: We were pleased to note the tribute which Mr. Kennedy was able to make to the local committee in Barryroe. Comprised primarily of the members of the Young Farmers’ Club, this committee gave every assistance during the whole period of construction and in the early stages, when labour was scarce, was able to arrange the release of a number of County Council road workers to meet the shortage.
Of the original 214 economic acceptances, 27 were backsliders, thus making 9 others uneconomic. As against this, 28 new acceptances were obtained, making a final total of 206 consumers. Revenue fell by £50 and capital cost increased by £28, thus reducing the return of the area from 8.83 to 8.55%."
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Mr. Kennedy notes, however, that had the area been designed on the basis of the costs obtaining during construction, then the return would have shown an increase from 8.15 to 8.55%.
Sales in the area were very low, principally due to the fact that the 5 contractors working in the area all had their own shops. Items sold included 137 kettles, 135 irons, 39 Burco boilers and 3 pumps.
On the date of the report, 205 of the 206 consumers had been connected and 89 outoffices had been wired."
