The REO News from October 1956 reports that the usual difficulties of rock, water and timber were encountered in Birdhill. This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
“Birdhill, Rural Area, Co. Tipperary: Mr. J. F. Ryan tells us that he took over an excellent crew in Birdhill from Mr. D. Harnett who has crossed the Atlantic to try his fortune in a new world. We most certainly agree that they have done well and their final return of 6.15% is an increase of 0.43% on the designed figure. Principal difficulties in construction came under the usual three headings of rock, water, and timber, and the result is all the more satisfying on that account.
Sales by the Area Organiser, Mr. J. Penny, reached the very good total of £1,242 and we noted in the total no less than 13 pumps and 9 washing machines. Further sales to the value of £126 were completed in Showrooms and, therefore, cannot be placed to the credit of the area. Mr. Penny thinks that his sales campaign has exhausted the possibilities for the time being."
