"Bodyke Rural Area: From the report by Mr. Reynolds, R.A.E., and Mr. Larkin, A.O., on this Area, we learn that consumers increased from 340 to 387. The corresponding revenue increase was from £2,170 to £2,465. At the same time the construction cost increased from £21,842 to £24,867. The nett result is a slight diminution of the return from 9.95% to 9.85%. Much of the reason for this is credited to bad weather, heavy rock and water. It has been noted that a few hundred pounds could have been saved had the area been done in the summertime or in dry weather when water would be absent. Another difficulty which did not aid in keeping down costs was the delivery of material in small quantities, and the consequent high transport content because of the frequent runs to District Stores.
Two “switching‑in” ceremonies were held, one in Scariff and one in Bodyke. This was done so that honour would be satisfied in each Parish. The date selected for the Bodyke “switch‑in” was a particularly happy one, it being the anniversary of the “Bodyke Evictions”, one of the memorable incidents of the land troubles. The occasion was marked by the firing of a feu de joie by an F.C.A. Guard of Honour.
Sales by Mr. Larkin in the area included: 15 Cookers; 2 Irons; 1 Washing Machine; 2 Burco Boilers; 6 Kettles; 1 Immersion Group; 1 Pump; 2 Power Packets. Outside sales included: 18 Cookers; 35 Irons; 3 Milking Machines; 1 Welder; 17 Vacuum Cleaners; 10 Infra‑Red Lamps; 10 Kettles; 1 Pump; 3 Grain Mills and Motors totalling 248 H.P. for Cinema, Creamery, Sawing, Egg Sorting, Garage use, etc."
