The demonstration week in Clohamon was described as a very successful affair in The REO News from November 1954.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
“Clohamon Rural Area, Co. Wexford: Mr. Henning, R.A.E., provides the post‑construction report on Clohamon but points out that the area was under the control of Mr. T. V. Fahy, who has since been transferred to Athlone District.
Construction occupied a period of twelve weeks during which the crew averaged 195 units per week at a cost of 33/– per unit. Credit for this excellent standard is given to the members of the crew with particular mention of the Supervisor, Mr. P. Grace.
Of the original 215 acceptances, 33 were backsliders but 61 new consumers were obtained to record a nett increase in fixed charge of £226.10.0d. This extra revenue combined with a good construction cost improved the area return from 6.17% to 6.26%
The A.O., Mr. F. Long, achieved a very good sales total of £1,612, of which no less than £980 was effected during demonstration week. Small wonder that this week has been described as ‘a very successful affair’. At least 15 outside contractors were in operation in the area and it is calculated that their sales totalled more than £800. Among the Board sales were included: 14 Cookers; 6 Pumps; 6 Kettles; 6 Irons; 5 Electric Motors; 4 Grain Driers; 4 Hammer Mills (Tobin); 2 Washing Machines; 2 Burco Boilers; 1 Welder; 1 Grain Grinder and 1 Food Cooker. Three of the four driers were already in operation at the time of writing the report and with highly satisfactory results.
There were no outstanding points on the construction side in Clohamon except that it was the first area in which this particular crew operated the new neutralising regulations.”
