The REO News from March 1959 featured Thomas Moran’s farm on the front cover and contained an article about a water demonstration in Coone.

This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
“COVER PICTURE shows the delivery trench and pipe – part of the water demonstration in Coone rural area on the farm of Thomas Moran. The well was 260 yds from the house – hence our photo.
The pump was installed 40 yrds from the well. This meant a lift of 13 ft. from well to pump – an S.W\.Z.H. Waterpak – and a further rise of 28 ft. to the farmhouse.
The installation cost about £200. Mr. Moran got a £100 Government Grant. He will save his £100 on time and extra profits from his 65‑acre dairy farm. He has installed a waterheater and sink at the house, and plans cow byre and field outlets.
Over 100 attended the demonstration, on 3rd and 4th March. It was an unqualified success, and many enquiries have resulted. During the demonstration Mr. Moran very kindly provided an outhouse, where the various types of pumps and waterheaters were exhibited.
Similar demonstrations are to be held in each District. The next will be in Leitrim rural area, Co. Galway, (10th April) and the following at the farm of Mr. P. Falvey, near Killarney.
The object is to prove that it is easy to have a water supply in every rural home, no matter how distant the well; and that, with the Government Grant, a water supply is within the reach of every Rural Dweller.”
