Backsliding was almost non existent in Cordal according to The REO News from November 1954.Backsliding was almost non existent in Cordal according to The REO News from November 1954This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Cordal Rural Area, Co. Kerry: Mr. Cunningham, R.A.E., opens and closes his report on Cordal with a tribute to his Supervisor, Mr. John Nolan, his linesman and chargehands, his Area Clerk and his Area Organiser. That such a tribute is due is clear from the fact that in spite of an increase in the size of the area from 37 sq. miles to 45 sq. miles, the final return at 22% overheads shows an improvement from 5.65% to 6.25%. Favourable mention is also made of the standard of the local workers engaged in the area who impressed Mr. Cunningham much more favourably than any he had previously met. The average weekly output for 23 weeks was 258.
Backsliding was practically non‑existent at a total of twelve most of whom were building new houses and did not require supply in the old premises. A total of 95 new consumers brought the final figure of consumers up to 555.
At the completion of construction, sales in the area had mounted to a total of £1,010. Since that time, the sales van has been visiting the area regularly and additional sales amounting to £400 have been made. Most of the appliances are of the smaller type, Kettles; Irons; Rings, etc., but the list also includes: 6 Pumps; 6 Cookers; 4 Washing‑machines and 1 Welder. This is a very creditable performance particularly when considered in light of the fact that no local contractor was at work in the area including the house of McElligott’s, who had been much‑known suppliers in the south‑west. It is anticipated that there will be further demand for pumps and Mr. Cunningham regards those already sold as good advertising."
