The REO News from June 1956 reports that rock caused some problems in Croom.

This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Croom Rural Area, Co. Limerick: Mr. Harnett tells us that Croom is a small compact area but that construction progress was retarded by reason of the fact that approximately 65% of the pole holes were in rock. Both capital costs and revenue increased, the latter by a slightly better percentage and the return improved from 5.75% to 5.85%, a result on which the crew are to be commended.
Sales by the Organiser, Mr. J. Penny, reached the excellent total of £1,630, a particularly satisfactory figure when it is recalled that Mr. Penny was absent from the area for about three weeks on the training course in Head Office. We noted that the 6 pumps sold included in most cases the necessary G.B. tubing and in light of recent conditions we must specially commend Mr. Penny on the sale of 21 3‑plate cookers."
