The REO News from June 1955 reports that Drumkeen was not an easy area.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Drumkeen Rural Area, Co. Donegal: Mr. P. J. Quinn and the men of the Drumkeen crew deserve great credit for improving their area from 5.21% to 6.72% having increased the number of consumers from 210 to 321. It was not an easy area and there was plenty of double‑staying to be done in the bog regions. They found the area with almost as many rejected groups as economic groups and Mr. Quinn’s report pays tribute to the excellent work of the A.O., Mr. Doherty, in keeping ahead of the construction crew and in dealing with the many cases of special service charges which had to be quoted.
Most of the supplies in the area were tapped off the 3‑phase line to Ballybofey and Stranorlar, and switch‑outs had to be short with consequent high‑pressure work during these necessarily brief periods.
Demonstrations were well attended at both Drumkeen and Convoy but unfortunately were not very fruitful and sales for the area amounted to £342. Most of the people in the area do their business in electrical goods with an ex‑employee of Convoy Woollen Mills who had to retire due to ill‑health. With this availability there for the future it is not anticipated that post‑development sales by the Board will be very extensive."
