Inclement weather was a feature in Duagh according to The REO News from May 1957.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Duagh Rural Area, Co. Kerry: The economy in Duagh, situated in north‑east Kerry, consists mainly in dairy farming on small holdings and the saving of turf on the extensive bogs of Lyrecrampane.
Mr. W. Ryan, R.A.E., states that inclement weather added water‑logged holes to the more normal difficulties of construction in rocky and boggy ground but he gives credit to the Supervisor, Mr. John Nolan, and the charge‑hands for the efficient way in which construction work proceeded.
Although backsliding was prevalent in the early stages of the area, Mr. John Murphy, A.O., worked to such good effect that a nett gain of 47 consumers was recorded. It is disappointing to note, however, that sales only reached the figure of £291, but Mr. Ryan attributes much of the lack of success to the withdrawal of the grant for water supply."
