The REO News from August 1950 tells us of a consumer in Dundrum who sailed away.

This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Dundrum Area: One of the most interesting notes in Mr. Reynolds’ report on this Area was that about 30 Milking Machines will be converted or installed with electric drive. Another pleasing note was that sales deliveries had been more prompt than heretofore. Of the original 340 economic acceptances, 26 were ‘backsliders’ but 65 extra consumers were secured. We have not available the final capital expenditure and revenue figures. Most of the residents in the area preferred to go into Tipperary or Limerick to make their own purchases of appliances. Cookers, Irons, Kettles and Pumps are the most popular items, but interest in farm appliances is low because it is mostly a milking country.
Principal items sold by the E.S.B. were 8 – 3‑plate Cookers; 1 – 2‑plate Cooker; 2 – Shallow Well Pumps. Contractors installed about 30 outside lights as well as selling 4 Cookers and a Refrigerator. A cable service was necessary for the supply to the Dundrum sawmills and Mr. Reynolds is anxious to know if this is the first time that R.E.O. have gone underground.
The A.O. indignantly refuses to classify one of the ‘backsliders’ as such. In this case the consumer had a bungalow built on a raft which he rolled away out of the area, leaving behind him only a number on the map, a signed Application Form, and a most indignant Organiser."
