"Enfield Rural Area, Co. Meath: Mr. H.P. Adams, R.A.E. and Mr. J. Walls, A.O. have provided the post‑construction report on Enfield Rural Area.
Like so many areas now coming up for construction, a considerable length of time had elapsed between the date of canvass and the date of selection, and it is to this fact that Mr. Adams attributes the high proportion of the 42 backsliders encountered. houses to take supply until new houses had been built. Just as the construction crew moved out, six or seven of the backsliders decided once again to change their minds, but by then it was too late and it will be some little time before they can now get the benefits of supply. 83 new acceptances were obtained, including 18 who were paying special service charges, and, as a result, the final total of consumers connected rises from 355 to 396. From a rapid check of the final costs and revenue, it would appear that the percentage return will be approximately the same as the original figure.
Sales in the area were low, at a total of £467, principal items being – 6 Cookers, 2 Pumps, 1 3‑H.P. Motor, 1 Grain Grinder and 1 15‑Gal. Storage Waterheater.
A large number of contractors operated in the area and provided keen competition on the sales side. The report, however, does not indicate the total volume.
It is anticipated that Pumps, Milking Machines and small domestic appliances will be popular."
