The REO News from January 1953 tells us that most consumers in Errill had outside lights installed.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Errill Rural Area: The report of Errill area comes from the pens of Mr. P. MacRory, R.A.E. and Mr. J. Conroy, A.O., opening with the observation by Mr. MacRory that he only came to the area in the concluding stages and that credit for what success it enjoyed must also go to Mr. P. Osborne, who was R.A.E. for most of the construction period.
There were 44 backsliders in the original 338 acceptances but as against this, 82 additional consumers were received to bring the final total to 376. The overall return claims an increase from 7.0% to 7.61%. It is noted that there will be little scope for post‑development in the area as the majority of houses have already been connected.
In extenuation of some of the backsliding, it is noted that nine of the cases fell within the jurisdiction of the town network in Rathdowney and had already been connected in this manner. One dwelling had been turned into an outoffice, one had been demolished, two had become vacant and in one case the owner had died without leaving a will. There were four cases where tenants would not take supply as the owners of the houses refused to carry out the wiring.
Sales in the area amounted to over £925 and included 5 Washing Machines; 4 Cookers; 2 Burco Boilers; 4 Vacuum Cleaners; 6 Pumps and 1 Grain Grinder.
Mr. Conroy notes that one consumer cancelled his order for a pump because of some trouble about his Grant from the Dept. of Agriculture. We have asked Development Division to look into this matter and see if it can be satisfactorily remedied. The report notes that most of the new consumers installed outside lights and put light in the cow byres. Perhaps when Mr. Conroy reads this note he would be good enough to advise us how many outside lights were installed if he has any note or memory of the figure."
