"Fighting Cocks Rural Area, Co. Carlow: We know that the Secretary, Mr. P. J. Dempsey, must feel quite happy that the Fighting Cocks area is now connected to our networks, as he was the recipient of very considerable personal representations on behalf of the area.
Mr. Boylan tells us that backsliding was fairly heavy in the region but re‑design and re‑costing were carried out to keep the effect to a minimum, and the area finished with a return of 4.9% against a designed return of 5.02%. This is a very creditable performance in face of difficulties and one on which the crew is to be congratulated.
Sales in the area were moderate at a total of £786.10.0d but Mr. D. Walshe found himself at the disadvantage that some of his local competitors had appliances such as washing machines at pre‑levy prices. He thinks that a visit from the salesvan in the near future should prove successful."
