The REO News from February 1953 contained a report on KiladysartA scanned page from the ESB REO magazine about the Kiladysart Rural AreaThis digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Kildysart Rural Area, Co. Clare:
The report on Kildysart Rural Area is also furnished by Area Organiser, M. Larkin. From it we learn that the final return is considerably below the original figure (7.05% as against 7.85%). The "credit" for this diminution is attributed to the fact that the area was constructed during the period when conductor was in short supply, combined with the fact that 85% of the holes on the backbone line were in rock, and that this was typical of the area generally.
There were 20 backsliders out of the original total of 248 consumers but 66 new acceptances were gained, leaving the final figure of 294. Revenue increased from approximately £1,380 to £1,623 but cost increased from £17,590 to £23,035. The greater part of this latter increase is accounted for by the rise in cost of material.
Sales by E.S.B. totalled £550 and included: 1, 4‑Plate Cooker, 3, 3‑Plate Cookers, 4, 2‑Plate Cookers, 2 Washing Machines, 1 Tailor's Iron, 1 Kettle, 2 Welders, 1 Pump. 2 Milking Machines have been installed and Mr. Larkin thinks that possibly a few more will be purchased in the near future.
The suggestion by the R.A.E. that the pump in Ballynacally village should be electrified, was not followed up by the County Council."
