The REO News from September 1953 tells us that sales were poor in Kilclone.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Kilclone Rural Area, Co. Kildare/ Meath: Mr. H.P. Adams, R.A.E. and Mr. J.A. Walls, A.O. signed the post‑construction report on Kilclone.
A noteworthy feature of the area was that it was necessary to provide additional authorisation of £11,910 to give supply to approximately 99 extra consumers. Many of these additional consumers, (in fact a total of 44), were uneconomic and were supplied at the minimum return. They included quite a number of migrants now living in Land Commission houses which were not built when the area was canvassed. Details of the actual consumer position are as follows:
Original Economic Acceptances: 258
Backsliders: 27
Additional Acceptances: 116
Final Total Acceptances: 346
We regret that no figures for economics were included in the report.
As might be expected from an area of this nature, sales were poor, principal items being: 1 Refrigerator; 1 Pump; 4 Cookers and 1 Washing Machine. Other cooker enquiries were passed on to Showrooms and an enquiry on grain drying was passed on to Development Division.
It is not expected that there will be any great prospect for early post‑development in the area."
