Backsliding was not a serious problem in Kilcoona as reported in The REO News from February 1956
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Kilcoona Rural Area, Co. Galway:
Mr. C. O’Maidir, R.A.E., tells us that final cost figures were not available at the time of writing the report, but we note that he had a nett gain of 33 consumers and that backsliding was not a very serious problem. Construction difficulties consisted in the main of a fairly heavy amount of rock, and the report tells us that well over 1,000 lbs of gelignite was used. Mr. O’Maidir includes some comments on material shortages which we have passed to Materials Division.
Sales resistance is described as very stiff and Mr. Fatharta, Area Organiser, experienced a fair amount of keen competition which is described as not always conforming to Queensbury Rules. In spite of his difficulties, however, he reached the good total of £1,015, mostly in domestic appliances."
