The REO News from March 1957 reports that there were no major difficulties in Killasser:
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Killasser Rural Area, Cos. Mayo/Sligo
While boggy ground and rock were met in the construction of the Killasser area, the Area Engineer, Mr. D. O'Conchubhair, in his report could not record any major difficulties as having obstructed the progress of work. The area is one of small holdings and small but neatly kept houses in which one of the main sources of income is in the form of remittances from emigrants.
The actual gross cost showed a slight increase over the amount authorised and a decrease from 5% to 4.85% in the overall return is attributed to the number of houses which were supplied at the limiting ratio. Altogether a nett 70 additional consumers were gained over and above the total of original economic acceptances.
The level of sales was not particularly good, only £370 worth of equipment having been sold but this is partly due to the fact that the Area Organiser, Mr. T. Daly, left before completion of the area, what would normally be the most profitable period for sales. Mr. O'Conchubhair suggests that a visit from a salesman would be worthwhile."

We have to thank John Scully and his family for sharing these wonderful photographs of his grandfather Willie Scully and fellow ESB colleagues erecting poles for the rural electrification scheme in Killasser.
