The REO News from April 1955 reports that Knocknagoshel was a mountainous area.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Knocknagoshel Rural Area, Co. Kerry: The Knocknagoshel crew, we gather from Mr. Cunningham’s report, set themselves a reasonably good standard and regarded an average weekly output of 225 units as being definitely under par. It would appear, however, that they were working in a mountainous region in bad weather conditions and with a full complement of bog, rock and water. In the circumstances, an improvement in return from 6% to 6.5% must be regarded as worthy of commendation. This is particularly so when one learns that the Supervisor, the Area Clerk and the Area Organiser were all operating in their first area in those capacities.
Sales amounted to £664, including 2 Pumps; 6 Washing Machines; 3 Cookers; and a variety of Kettles and Irons. Wiring Contractors sold very little and even a well‑known establishment in Castleisland, whose policy is to under‑cut Board prices, had sales amounting to only £100.
Mr. Cunningham pays tribute to Mr. McMahon, the original A.O. in the area for the success of the sales campaign under adverse conditions. It is noted that the prospects for future sales are not very encouraging."
