The REO News from February 1957 reports that a lot of blasting was required in Latton
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Latton Rural Area, Co. Monaghan:
The report for Latton area comes from Mr. F. A. Kelleher who took over from Mr. J. Fegan when the area had been in progress for three months. He attributed the smooth changeover to the excellence of Mr. Fegan’s records and his efficient handling of the gang.
There was a nett gain of thirty consumers over the original figure of 367 economic acceptances. Mr. Kelleher expects the return to fall slightly, however, due to a fall in revenue resulting from the necessity for re‑measuring some of the houses, and to constructional difficulties. The latter factor was caused by the nature of the country. Average spans were reduced by the hilly contours and blasting had to be used for every second hole. The revision of costs also contributed to the higher level of expenditure."
