There was a fairly detailed report on Liscarton in The REO News from February 1953.A scanned page from the ESB REO magazine about the Liscarton Rural Area.A scanned page from the ESB REO magazine about the Liscarton Rural Area. This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Liscarton Rural Area, Co. Meath: The opening paragraph of Mr. Rafferty’s report reminds us that in Liscarton area the gang used the offices and stores previously occupied during the construction of the Bohermeen area. Consequently, no time was lost transferring stores and unit costs did not rise appreciably during the transition period.
Mr. Rafferty has some criticism of the difficulties in dead‑ending G.S. conductor. We have passed his comments to Technical Division who will undoubtedly see what can be done to eliminate the difficulty.
The section of the report dealing with the consumer position and sales is signed by Mr. McEnaney, Area Organiser. From it we learn of the original 366 economic acceptances 49 were back‑sliders, against which 55 new acceptances were obtained. In addition, 11 uneconomic acceptances agreed to pay increased fixed charges and the final total, therefore, becomes 382 consumers. Revenue increased by £250 from £1,912 to £2,162. The final cost figures were not available at the time of writing the report but it was expected that the original return of 7.45% would not be diminished.
There were no less than 17 local contractors operating in the area and it naturally follows that wiring was completed very quickly. Most of these contractors carried small appliances with them and made their sales as wiring proceeded. The principal sales by the Area Organiser included: 3, 3‑Plate Cookers; 3, 2‑Plate Cookers; 3, Single‑Plate Cookers, 3 Washing Machines, 4 Burco Boilers, 10 Irons, 3, 5‑Pt. Kettles and 2, 6‑Pt. Kettles.
Mr. McEnaney considers that there are good prospects of future sales when the consumers have recovered from their initial expenditure in wiring their premises. Mr. Rafferty also notes"
