The REO News from January 1957 reports that the working conditions in Mitchelstown were fairly difficult.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Mitchelstown Rural Area, Co. Cork: Mr. J. P. Buckley provides the report on Mitchelstown but construction was carried out under Mr. J. Mulcahy, who left the Board’s service at the conclusion of the area in October last. Final costs were not available when Mr. Buckley was writing the report but in spite of backsliding revenue has remained static. Working conditions were at times fairly difficult and it is expected that capital costs will be somewhat up.
Mr. Buckley suffers from the difficulty that Mr. P. J. Montgomery, A.O., was transferred from the area before its conclusion and he was not too sure as to the actual amount of sales. We can tell him, however, that according to our Head Office records, these were approximately £800."
