The REO News from March 1955 reports that Moorfield was surrounded by developed rural areas.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Moorfield Rural Area, Co. Kildare: Moorfield Area, we learn from Mr. J.A. Vale, lies in the vicinity of Droichead Nua, and is completely surrounded by developed rural areas. No less than 73 consumers in the area were already supplied and since less than 30 of the new consumers were farmers, it naturally follows that great things could not be expected. Additional work not allowed for on the design included the replacement of 600 metres of 2×16 G.S. by 3×50 S.C.A. and the addition of a 3rd phase of 25 Sq.mm. copper on 1160 metres of existing single‑phase line. In spite of this, the ratio improved from 5.0% to 5.31%.
As a further complication, Mr. Vale was on sick leave for 7 weeks, during which Mr. N. O’Kane acted as A.E. for part of the time and Mr. F. Scanlon for another part. It is little wonder, therefore, that the new Supervisor, Mr. T. Ryan (of Tipperary hurling fame) collects due and fitting tribute from Mr. Vale, as indeed do all members of this new crew in their first area.
There was no formal demonstration in the area, but instead a Tasker trailer unit visited 3 different locations in the area, spending a night or two in each. Unfortunately the Clerk of the Weather was not in a very conciliatory mood at the time of the visit, which consequently aroused little interest. In spite of adverse conditions, Mr. T. Poole, the Area Organiser, achieved a total sales of £676 which in other circumstances might be regarded as rather indifferent, but in this particular instance must be taken as deserving of commendation."
