The REO News from August 1955 tells us that the terrain was a factor in Mountcollins
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Mountcollins Rural Area, Co. Kerry:
Mountcollins is a fairly mountainous terrain, lying between Abbeyfeale and Tournafulla and construction there lasted from the end of January until early in April. Between terrain and weather an improvement would be hard to expect and, therefore, Mr. E.L. Cunningham and his crew are very much to be commended on the fact that they maintained a weekly output averaging 260 units at 31/‑ per unit with the final result and they improved their ratio from 6.05% to 7.15%.
Sales by Mr. C.A. Ryan, A.O., were not very high at a total of £452 but Mr. Cunningham points out that the area is rather poor with small holdings and that such a result could not be regarded as unsatisfactory. It is regrettable to learn that Mr. Martin Kearney, Supervisor, suffered from ill health during the construction and that eventually it was necessary to recall him to the District Office. His place as Supervisor has been taken by Mr. C. O’Connor."
