There was a large number of milking machines installed in Mullinahone according to The REO News from February 1952
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Mullinahone Rural Area: It was very pleasant to read in Mr. Heslin’s post construction report on this Area that he was never held up for any material and he expresses his thanks to all concerned for the excellent service he got in this respect.
He records that there was a certain amount of rock encountered in the Area, particularly in Mullinahone Village, in which the incidence of rock was approximately 75% of the total holes dug. As an anti‑blast cover, a dozen stay blocks were bolted to two cattle guards and on top of these were placed six bags of clay, with the pole for good measure.
The labour position was good, although a little slow at the commencement of operations. However, a large notice outside the office – “Men Wanted – Apply Within” – had the desired effect.
The acceptances at the completion of construction were 245, the exact figure of the original acceptances, the 26 backsliders being countered by a corresponding number of new acceptances, of whom two came on at increased Fixed Charges. Approximately 44 houses remained to be wired when the gang left, most of these being County Council cottages in which wiring was just commencing.
It is pleasant to note that most of the farmers put in outside lights and that there were a large number of Milking Machines installed, motors having been purchased to replace the engines in each case. Principal items sold by contractors were Radios, Kettles, Irons and Washing Machines."
