The head of the house was coming under pressure in some homes in Nobber according to The REO News from February 1951.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Nobber Rural Area: The post‑construction report on this area was submitted by the Area Organiser, Mr. J. Murnaghan. From it we learn that there were 90 ‘backsliders’ out of the original total of 458 acceptances. As against this, only 25 additional acceptances were obtained, leaving a final result of 393. Mr. Murnaghan expresses the view that many of the ‘backsliders’ will be won back on post development, as in many of the cases concerned, only the head of the house had a serious objection and was being subjected to considerable pressure from other members of the family.
Sales in the area were good, amounting to an approximate total of £1,100. Among the principal appliances sold were: 11 3‑plate Cookers; 5 Grain Grinders; 2 Deep Well Pumps; 6 Shallow Well Pumps; 2 2‑plate Cookers; 2 Washing Machines; 3 Breakfast Cookers; 1 Burco Boiler; 1 Power Packet. Contractors in the area sold numerous Kettles, Irons and Radio Sets. It is anticipated that further sales of Cookers and Pumping Units will be effected when some of the consumers have recovered from the initial installation costs."
