A demonstration in Owning had a festive theme as reported in The REO News December 1950

A scanned page from the ESB REO magazine about the Owning Rural AreaThis digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:

"The demonstration in Owning Area was in the best traditions of the Season. A huge Christmas Tree formed the centrepiece and was hung with kettles, irons, milk‑warmers, etc., etc. We understand that Miss Murphy must be credited with the inspiration. The A.O., Mr. G. Shanahan, had Sales amounting to £530 9s. 7d. for the evening.

It was most interesting and encouraging to learn that in Glenamaddy Area, 435 houses were wired before construction commenced."

The REO News from April 1951 forecasts that sales should be good going forward in OwningA scanned page from the ESB REO magazine about the Owning Rural AreaThis digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:

"Owning Rural Area: Mr. Duffy reports that in spite of 35 ‘backsliders’, 41 additional acceptances were obtained, bringing the final total of consumers to 247. Final figures are not available as yet for Revenue and Capital Expenditure.

Total of sales by Mr. Shanahan, A.O., amounted to £1,500 and included principally Cookers, Washing Machines, Burco Boilers, Grain Grinder, Kettles and Irons. It is expected that post‑development sales should be good.

Decisions on wiring of cottages by the County Council still remain slow, but it is noted that the provision of a set of 6" maps with the cottages in question marked thereon was very satisfactory and that not a single query came back from the Council."
