The REO News from January 1955 reports that there was a high incidence of rock in the northern section of Rahara.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Rahara Rural Area, Co. Roscommon: Mr. Fahy, R.A.E., must have felt well pleased with the job he and his crew did in Rahara. The total number of acceptances rose from 232 to 266 including 13 losses of which only 5 were backsliders and the final return for the area improved from 5.65% to 5.89%.
There were not many constructional difficulties but, particularly in the northern section of the area, there was a fairly high incidence of rock. Shortage of stay insulators and earth wire caused a great deal of trouble. Temporary stays had to be erected on almost all L.T. poles and this meant a considerable amount of doubling back on work when permanent materials became available. In making these comments Mr. Fahy pays tribute to Materials Division for the assistance they gave in a condition of affairs which was not of their making.
Sales were reasonably good at a total of £600; the main bulk of this being comprised of domestic appliances. A complete sales record was unfortunately not available at the time of writing the report as the Area Organiser, Mr. Galvin, had been transferred to a new construction crew. Outside lights were very popular and the report estimates an installation of approximately 80%.
The personnel of the construction crew changed very considerably, including the transfer of the original R.A.E., Mr. Cremins, to Waterford District; the transfer of Mr. Mulrooney, Area Clerk, to the District Office and the transfer of two of the older linesmen who left to take up an appointment in England. Mr. Fahy hopes, however, that the “New Look” gang will live up to the older tradition which included the fact that it finished fourth in “Top Ten”.
