The REO News from July 1954 reports that the storage of materials caused a problem in Rathmelton:
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Rathmelton Rural Area, Co. Donegal: Mr. D. P. Gallagher, R.A.E., provides the final report on Rathmelton Rural Area. He will agree with us that his report is rather brief and contains very few of the facts which are customarily included in such reports. We note that out of the original total of 336 consumers, 164 were in the town of Rathmelton, so that the truly rural part of the area was only called on to provide supply to 172 acceptances.
Readers will recall that in an earlier issue we told the story of how the materials for Rathmelton and Rathmullan were delivered coastwise and Mr. Gallagher refers to the difficulty of keeping the materials for each area separate, as they were all held in one store. He pays tribute to the Area Clerk, Mr. P. J. Gilroy, for the excellent way he dealt with the difficulties of such a situation.
We gather that there are some prospects for postādevelopment but that there will be a fair amount of special service charge involved."
