The REO News from November 1954 tells us that sales were excellent in Rathmullan.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Rathmullan Rural Area, Co. Donegal: The post‑construction report on Rathmullan has unfortunately confined itself to being a report from the Area Organiser, Mr. H. Dunlop, and does not include any notes on the construction side of the job or on the economics.
The Area started off with 426 consumers and a revenue of £3,524 and finished with 476 consumers with a revenue of £4,461. There were 25 backsliders and this rendered a further 15 premises uneconomic — the owners would not pay an increased fixed charge. 7 houses had become vacant since the canvass and additional consumers totalled 97. A very attractive load in the area was the Milford Bakery which carries an A.F.C. of £1,070 per annum.
We must congratulate Mr. Dunlop on the excellent sales standard in which he reached a total of £2,424. Among the appliances sold we noted 28 3‑Plate Cookers; 2 Grain Grinders; 2 Welders; 3 Shallow Well Pumps; 5 Vacuum Cleaners; 4 Washing Machines and a mixed bag of Kettles, G.S. Cookers, Irons, Boiling Rings, Fractional H.P. Motors and an Animal Food Cooker.
Mr. Dunlop tells us he insisted particularly on the installation of plug points as he believes that electricity will be used extensively for domestic purposes and in the farmyard, and we are glad to report that he got about an 80% response. Pumps will be popular in the area when the residents have seen them in action for a little time but just at the present stage there is much more water available than anyone would wish. With a normal year, however, they will be found of particular value and a visit of the salesvan, particularly to the region between Milford and Kilmacrennan, should pay dividends in about a year’s time. Rathmullan is a non‑turf area and fires, domestic cookers, kettles and farm food cookers should be popular."
