Work in Abbeydorney was difficult due to the amount of water encountered as reported in The REO News from February 1951

This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Abbeydorney Rural Area: The construction in this area was extremely difficult due to the amount of water encountered. Mr. Gibson, R.A.E., advises that any areas within the Cashin Drainage Scheme should be held for period May/September. In spite of the difficulties, the final cost was good, and the overall return for the area as completed, is expected to be 8.2% as against the 8.1% originally estimated. Of the original economic acceptances of 294, 11 were “backsliders” and 14 became uneconomic because of wayleave difficulties and objections. On the other side of the ledger, 47 additional acceptances were obtained, leaving a nett increase of 22 consumers in a final total of 316. At the date of the report (end of December), 285 of these consumers had been connected. The major portion of the remainder were awaiting wiring by the local contractor.
The Area Organiser, Mr. McMahon, notes that while there were only 4 wiring contractors engaged in the area, a feature of the wiring was the number of out‑offices connected, and the number of yard lights installed both by farmers and shopkeepers. A total of 71 consumers had their outoffices wired, and the total of outside lamps amounted to 82. Two forges and one workshop were connected in the area.
Principal sales in the area included 5 Grain Grinders; 2 1½ H.P. Motors; 1 Shallow Well Pump; 1 Deep Well Pump; 4 Burco Boilers; 1 Hoover Washing Machine; 1 3‑plate Cooker; 1 1‑plate Cooker. Domestic appliances sold well and the local contractors are doing a brisk trade in this part of the business. There are 10 Milking Machines in the area, and more are being installed using electric drive. It is expected that there will be a ready sale for Grain Grinders when these become available."
