The REO News from January 1950 reported on the switch on ceremony in Silvermines
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"The first phase of the extension of supply to Silvermines Area took place on Wednesday, 14th December when Rev. T. Daly, P.P., having blessed the installation, performed the switch‑on for Silvermines village.
In view of the comparatively recent selection of the Area, it was small wonder that Fr. Daly should pay tribute to the Area Staff who had completed this portion of the project with such efficiency and dispatch. Mr. D. J. Reynolds, Area Engineer, thanked Fr. Daly for his remarks and expressed appreciation of the help of the clergy and local committee, saying that the Board was eager to give to every progressive farmer the electric power which for too long he had been unable to get."
