Storms caused the cancellation of the switch on ceremony in Taghmaconnell according to The REO News from September 1955.
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Taghmaconnell Rural Area, Co. Roscommon: Father Finegan, acting Parish Priest of Taughmaconnell, was very disappointed when last December’s storms called Mr. S. Foley and his crew away to help in the repair work in Co. Longford, thus causing a cancellation of the switch‑on arrangements. He made it his business to call here in H.O. to express his appreciation of the way the crew did their job through the toughest portion of a tough Winter.
Mr. Foley gives credit to his A.O., Mr. J. Galvin, for his untiring efforts to get in the maximum number of consumers, and that the efforts were successful is shown by the fact that the number of consumers increased by approximately 10% and that the area return improved from 5.34% to 5.65%.
Mr. Galvin’s best efforts were unavailing as far as sales were concerned and the total of £288 is very low indeed. Taughmaconnell is a poor region of the country and it will be a long time before anyone will get sales of any value in the area.
Mr. Hickey pays tribute to his Supervisor, Mr. Heneghan, his Chargehands, Area Organiser and Area Clerk, whose co‑operation and efforts brought a difficult job to a successful conclusion."
