Togher consisted primarily of large farms according to The REO News from March 1953
This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Togher Rural Area, Co. Louth: Mr. Curran, A.O., also provides the report on Togher area which followed closely on the heels of Kilsaran. It was rather different type of area because, whereas Kilsaran area had an urban outlook with several large villages, the Togher area consisted primarily of large farms of high grade agricultural land and the residents were uninfluenced by their proximity to the adjoining towns of Drogheda and Dundalk.
The demonstration, which was held in Annagassan, (the only village in the area) followed on the lines of that held in Kilsaran in that local electrical traders joined the Board in providing trade shows in the hall.
The results, from the sales point of view, were more successful than in Kilsaran. The outside contractors found excellent sales for radios and miscellaneous small equipment. Board sales amounted to £483, including 9 Cookers, 1 Washing Machine, 2 Kettles, 1 Welder, 7 Burco Boilers and some small items such as Irons and Milkwarmers. Mr. Curran is of the opinion that the area will be an excellent venue for the post‑construction sales van.
Figures for capital cost are not included in the report but it is noted that there was a gain of 22 consumers from 177 to 199, with a corresponding increase in revenue of £108."
