Weather conditions were difficult in Turloughmore according to The REO News from May 1955.

This digital scan from the REO News displays the following text:
"Turloughmore Rural Area, Co. Galway: Mr. C. Cunningham in starting Turloughmore found himself with the perhaps unenviable task of taking over the “Crew of the Year” from Mr. Mooney who had been transferred to Head Office. He faced up to the headline bravely and we must congratulate him in that despite all difficulties he finished up with 508 consumers against the original 360 and without gain or loss in his percentage return. 41 of his new consumers arose from two extensions outside the boundaries of the area and he had 85 extras within the area proper. His overall cost worked out at 40/5d. per unit (see below) with a transport figure of 4.25 miles per unit.
Sales for the area amounted to the excellent total of £2,500 and we join with Mr. Cunningham in congratulating the Area Organiser, Mr. Martin Cooke, not only on this effort, but also on the consumer position. At the time of writing the detailed account of the sales could not be provided but it is to follow.
Weather conditions were exceedingly difficult during construction and in addition to rock and water there was heavy flooding particularly at the time of the blizzard on the 8th December. As a result of this flooding, groups in many cases had to be abandoned and the return to them later had an adverse effect on both unit cost and miles per unit.
Having regard to all these conditions we feel sure that Mr. Mooney will be the first to agree that his favourite crew is continuing with the good work."
